A Chocolate Cake

A Chocolate Cake
By Hunter V

You need to mix 1 cup of sour milk, 1 cup of oil, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 eggs.

Then you need to add 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of sugar, ½ cup of cocoa, ½ tsp. of salt, 1 T of baking soda, 1 cup of boiling water, and then mix that and when you are done mixing that, mix everything. You will need to spray your pan with Pam first. Then put your batter in the pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 min.

Author's Purpose by Victoria V.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I think the author's purpose is to entertain. I think it is to entertain because most of the things in the story are funny. I also think that it is to entertain because most of the things are not very realistic. It also talks about a palace made of chocolate, and that probably will not happen. The book is to entertain because it talks about candies that are almost impossible to make.

Inform by Connor T.

I am going to inform you about winter. It has been a long winter in Iowa. It is about spring, though. The snow is melting. You can see the grass in Iowa. It has been raining a lot in Iowa, too. That helps the snow go away fast, too. That is what I informed you about.

Author's Purpose by Sam B.

I think the Author's Purpose in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is to entertain. The reason why is because he is not trying to persuade you to do anything. Another reason why is he can't inform you about chocolate factories because this really didn't happen. One more reason is it gets really funny later on.

Spongebob and Patrick Going to the Supermarket
By: Ashley B.
Once upon time there was a sponge and a starfish named Patrick and Spongebob. They were riding in Patrick’s car because Spongebob does not know how to drive. Spongebob was in the passenger seat. Patrick was in the driver’s seat. Patrick and Spongebob went pass the Crusty Crab. Spongebob said to Patrick all gibberish, “jhjhjfhkjhjfhjhgfj.”
Patrick told Spongebob that, “You work there, too.”
Spongebob said, “You work there, too.”
Patrick said, “I do! Well, I did not know that.” They were already in the parking lot in front of the supermarket. They grabbed two carts; one for each of them. They went inside and it was gigantic as could be. They divided the supermarket into four sections. Spongebob shopped two of the sections. When they got done with their sections, they went to the other sections that they had not shopped at yet. They got done with their shopping and checked out. They loaded up their groceries in Patrick’s car. They went home and put them away. Sponge bob fed Gary. Patrick watched TV.

Ella Enchanted by Lexee N.

Ella Enchanted
By Lexee N.
I think the author’s purpose is to entertain and inform. The reason why I think it is to entertain is because it is entertaining to hear that Ella obeys. The reason why I think it is to inform is because it is trying to tell every one that you should obey.

That is what I think the Author’s Purpose is and why!

Taylor Swift
By Lexee N.

Taylor Swift is famous for making music. Taylor is only a teen and she is a very famous country singer. One of her songs is Love Story. Love Story is about a princess’s dream, where a prince called Romeo comes and picks Juliet off her feet. The message is that even if your dad doesn’t approve of him, some day he’ll come through!
Another song is You Belong with Me. It’s about how the guy she has a crush on is with a snotty cheerleader, but Taylor is in the band. The message is someday the guy you like will eventually come through!!!

In every song Taylor writes she has a message. The reason she writes is because of her fans!!!!!!!!!!!

Freddy in Peril by Dalton K.

Freddy in Peril

I think the author’s purpose is to entertain people who read Freddy in Peril. I think this book is supposed to be an entertaining book because so far I think it is interesting. Another reason I think this book should be an entertainment book is because it is funny. Another reason I think the book should be an entertaining one is because the paragraph on the back of the book made it sound fun to read and it is.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Cassey D.

On 3-2-10 the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades went to Fort Dodge for a musical. It was about how Joseph’s brothers sold him to be a slave in Egypt. So Joseph worked for the king of Egypt. Then later in the play the king herd ruckus coming from up above him so he went to his room (that’s the room that’s right above him) it was the queen and Joseph (the servant) kissing, so he through Joseph in jail. Then a while after he got out of jail his brothers come asking for food, so Joseph tricked them by putting a pot in the youngest brother’s backpack to see if the other brothers stuck up for him. They did, so Joseph knew that the brothers had changed so then Joseph took the blame for it. Then the brothers made up.

In your comment if you don’t mind can you please put if you saw the play or not. Thank you, CasseyD.

SHARKS
By Vanessa S.

Sharks have the most powerful jaws on the planet. Each kind of shark has a different shaped tooth depending on their diet. Sharks never run out of teeth. If one is lost another spins forward from the rows of back up. Baby sharks are called pups. Sometimes sharks eat alone. The Great White shark rarely partakes in feeding frenzies.
Cookie Cutter sharks is a small shark. It is less than 2 feet long. It eats whales and dolphins. It eats them in small chunks.

Setting a Purpose by Cassey D.

Today Mrs. Olthoff taught all the 5th graders how to set a purpose, which means you have to know why you are reading the book you are reading.
There are Many different purposes for reading a book, but the most important ones are, reading for information and reading for fun which means that your reading a book that’s not a A.R. book or you are not reading it to take any kind of test on it.
In the 5th grade class we have to do a sheet about setting a purpose it has 4 columns on it there’s the date column, what you are reading column, reading for information column, and finally there is reading for fun. If we fill up 9 columns by next Monday we will get reworded for it.

What Good Readers Do by Cassey D.

You always need to read the back of the book.
Read every day.
You also need to PREDICT about what’s going to happen in the book you’re going to be reading.
You need to skim and scan, too.
You also need to use this thing called the five-finger rule.
That is when you pick any page in you’re book then read that page. If you don’t know a word put one finger up. If you get to all five fingers up then that book is probably too hard for you, but you can only do that with for-fun books.
Then make Connections. That is when you connect something that’s has happened, will happen, or is happening around you. There are three different kinds of connections like text to world, text to text, text to self.

Set a purpose why you’re reading that book.

Get an A.R. book, which means accelerated reader.

Also, when you are taking a reading test you need to read the questions before you read the passage. So you know what you’re looking for in the passage that you are reading.

You need to make a mental image in your head, which means you make a picture in your head while you reading.

Good Readers

What do good readers do?  You've probably never thought about that before, but my students think about it EVERY SINGLE DAY!  If you want to be a good reader, you have to know what to do!  So our first post is going to be about what good readers do.

The students were given two minutes to brainstorm some ideas about what good readers do.  Then, they typed their answers in Microsoft Word in sentences that make sense, put it in the student drop box, and I will post it here!
